I have a daughter so I do get the earned child credit or whatever it is but I%26#039;m really worried that I may still have to pay in. I made roughly $13,509.60 last year. Can anyone tell me if I will have to pay in and how much!??
My boss hasn%26#039;t taken federal withholding tax out of my paychecks all year! Will I have to pay in??
You will have to pay back some money, but it should not be too much. You need to talk to your Human Resources office and fill out the proper paperwork so it doesn%26#039;t happen again this year.

Don%26#039;t worry so much.... you SHOULD have taxes withheld,聽 BUT your income is so low that I really don%26#039;t think it will matter... here%26#039;s why......聽聽 you have deductions you can take---first off Standard deduction .... you have a child and probably can file HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD if you are living in a house or apartment with your child and are her support...聽聽 Head of household will deduct聽 $7850 from your initial $13,509 income... leaving you with a taxable income thus far of $13,509 MINUS $7850 = $5,659.... Then, you have 2 exemptions at $3500 EACH ... subtracting that will give you a ZERO taxable income----and you would still be entitled to the Earned Income Credit and any child care credits you can earn so you would still get a pretty good sized REFUND for 2007 taxes....

You really should not ask questions like this in a public forum because most people have no idea what they are talking about... They will lead your wrong and make you nervous for no reason. Well except for me I do taxes for a living. If you qualify for EIC and are head of household you are not going to owe anything. Essentially $0 of your income is taxable and if you happen to have any taxable income it will come out of your EIC and child tax credit. You can always call places like Jackson Hewitt and H and R Block for answers for free. Or you can go to a refund estimator website and enter in all of your info. Happy Tax season

I have a canned explanation to apparently clueless independent contractors and, if you are asking relatively simple questions in this forum, no offense, but you qualify as clueless:
Some employers try to get around paying employment taxes (social security and unemployment) and other employee benefits like workers compensation insurance by improperly classifying employees as independent contractors. The basic issue is the amount of control the employer has over the worker. If you are required to show up for work--personally--at a particular time, punch the clock, use the employer鈥檚 equipment and are paid an hourly rate, or another set rate based on time served, you are an employee. If you didn%26#039;t understand the difference when you posed your question, I would be even more convinced that you are an employee. What is your preference, Slotted or Phillips? Complete an IRS Form SS-8 to get an official ruling on your status. This will help you get unemployment if you get fired. When you file your income tax return, you can attach Form 8919 Uncollected Social Security and Medicare Tax on Wages and only pay the employee%26#039;s half of social security. You will still have to cough up all the income tax. IRS and the states are stepping up enforcement in this abuse area.
