Advice please! i am on income support as a lone parent?
you may not get housing benefit as the percentage of how it is calculated is quite high, ie hard to get benefit, but the tax credit system is different. to be honest, you really need to discuss the pair of you, what he expects his financial committment to be, as once you live together, the benefit system will lump you together, it wont be your money and his money. i wouldnt let it put you off living together. it depends if his job is well paid or not as to whether you%26#039;re benefits would be enough, you can do online calculations i think and also get some leaflets and a calculator and budget and work out if you%26#039;d be entitled to things, and see if you could manage as a couple. you probably would. a couple can live more cheaply than single people.

Wow, aren%26#039;t you being a little greedy - other partners with kids have to support themselves - why should the tax payer help you out when your man is working full time???!!!

depends on his income, go to your local job centre and they will be able to give you the advice you need.
Good luck.

I totally agree with fat tart. What is so special about you that makes you deserve benefits for doing sweet FA?

you had better inform that if someone really special is living with you then you have to let DSS know, if you get caught you could go to prison, they are very strict.. He is working 40hrs a week he wont get much tax credits, you can always apply and find out.. if you have any children you should be able to child tax credit.. they will ask for his P60 for last year.. it really depends on his salary, if he earns more than 15,000 he might get little bit of tax credits. You can always ring them up and ask for advice.. Like i say go to DSS for advice.. I hope you and your partner are happy, get things sorted.. good luck

if he lives with you your benefits will be re evaluated as you are the tenant.
If you dont say anything and you get reported you can be fined and loose your housing benefit.
If he is not the father you should be ok but speak with HM customs for advice on your tax credits and changes.

you would have to come off income support does he mind being the bread winner you would have to claim family tax credits, and you wouldn%26#039;t be able to get any help with housing ect but it depends on what hes earning

hi i don%26#039;t think you will get any benefits he works full time your income support will stop too sorry

You will not receive any extra money from taxes and he can%26#039;t use your child as a tax right off. You do have a better chance at renting a home if 1 or both of you have good credit since there will be 2 incomes coming into the house. One problem, and many don%26#039;t or won%26#039;t say anything but you are suppose to report when you receive assistance from someone else. They don%26#039;t report it in case he leaves. But the state and government sees it that if he cares enough to live with you then you should be seen as a married couple and he supports you and family.
Good luck in your future.

Hi Amy, its nice to see a couple starting out the correct way and not abusing the system, You would be entitled to tax credits as long as you partner fall below the guide lines, which i expect he does.
Ignore anyone who is trying to put you down on here and good luck to you and your soon to be family

I don%26#039;t think you%26#039;d get Housing Benefit if he%26#039;s working full time, I only get part Housing Benefit and I%26#039;m a lone parent working part-time. You%26#039;d still get your income support, and Child Benefit, not sure about Tax Credits if there%26#039;s an income, he wouldn%26#039;t be able to claim working tax credit for your child. You%26#039;d be the only one entitled to any benefits as he%26#039;s not your child%26#039;s father.
To Fat Tart and Choc Lover (not one and the same, are you?) She is entitled to benefits, it%26#039;s the law! The government says so! Do you think us lone parents like the fact that strangers are in effect providing for our children? Before you even start, my child%26#039;s father walked out on me 2 weeks before I was due to give birth, what was I supposed to do? Leave her on a church step? Get a clue!

Assuming he hasnt claimed working tax credit before now and the child is in full time education and none of the household is disabled then the following is approx.
tax credits - both working and child 鎷?24.95 per week
no housing or council tax benefit payable (because you have too much income with the tax credits) If you didnt get the tax credits you would get housing benefit of approx. 鎷?8 per week

you wont get your rent or council tax paid. you will get child tax credits but not much probably about 鎷?0-鎷?0 a week per kid, he may get some working tax credit but only a couple pound a week i guess.
we get 鎷?0 a week tax credits for 2 kids ages 4 and 9 and i earn more than you fella does and i work 37 hours a week.
