I live in a sublet appartment that is under someone else%26#039;s name, so technically there is no proof that I live there. If I have someone call the collectors or the court and tell them that no such person ever lived at the address, would the legal action against me stall? Is there anyway to get the action stalled without revealing myself? Also, can the collection agencies find out about my employment if never gave out my work info to any banks or others? Is there a way for them to get my work info from the IRS and state tax agencies? What%26#039;s the procedure for wage garnishment and how likely is it if the judgment is obtained? Please be specific in you answers. And please, no comments on the morality of the non-payment, because you have no idea about the circumstances of the default.

I%26#039;m no lawyer, but I am relatively experienced in the money field and even subletting. Even if you are subletting, the rental agency or apartment owner or whoever most likely knows you are living there, and that%26#039;s enough. Not to mention most subletting involves a piece of paper that you sign saying you will pay your rent...ect. That being said, unless you have been %26#039;served%26#039; with a subpoena, either by registered mail or in person, you are not obligated to respond to it. My best advice to you is to GET a lawyer, it sound%26#039;s like you%26#039;re going to need one anyway. Don%26#039;t worry about lawyer fees or whatever because it sounds like you%26#039;re going to have to file for bankruptcy anyway. Yes they can find out your employment information as they can get it from the IRS if you have legitimately defaulted on your loans or debt or whatever. Doesn%26#039;t matter who you tell, it%26#039;s all tied to your social security number. Likely hood of wage garnishment depends on any legal agreement you make with them or whether you file for bankruptcy. Again, a LAWYER would be your best bet on this one to keep you from getting your wages garnished, and settling your debt into a loan or something. Go see a lawyer, because if you don%26#039;t you ARE going to get your wages garnished.

The address scam will not work. And yes there are several ways that collection companies or anyone else for that matter can find out where you work.
If you do not show up at court, the court will issue whats called a default judgment to the collection company. At that point they can garnish your wages (if your State allows it), attach bank accounts and file liens on any property you may own like vehicles, boats, land or homes. This collection activity and judgment will ruin your credit score and will show on your credit for at least 7-years.
It%26#039;s most likely to late to keep the collection activity from showing up, but you can contact the collection company and work out a payment plan and stop the judgment procedure.

The collectors will have ways of finding out where you work and live. I suggest you connect with them and arrange to pay what is owed.

You better be really sure that you can prove you do not live there, do you get mail to the address?
What your Friend most likely will have to do, is to go down to court house and signed a sworn affidavit that not only you do not live there but does not know where you are, if they have information other wise your friend will face criminal perjury charges
failure to show up will lead to a judgment issued against you, then the collection group can go after any assets they can find, attach your bank account, maybe your wages depending on what state you live in
there is no easy way to find out that info, they can subpoena you to come to court and list all your assets, job failure to show will be contempt of court
or
if allot of monies they can hire a pi to follow you

No we have no idea of the circumstances because you didn%26#039;t elect to share them. If you think you are justified in lying and sneaking around, then that%26#039;s your decision, but why should anyone help you do so?
